Recycling is here to stay! What was once something that only adamant environmentalist would do has become an everyday occurrence for most Americans. General recycling efforts tend to try to divert as many resources away from disposal as possible. Paper products make up the largest part of our waste stream and therefore there are established recycling systems in place for such materials. But e-waste, items such as fluorescent lamps, batteries and other such devices, contain a much higher degree of hazardous components that should be reclaimed and recycled.
Other reasons that you should recycle e-waste:
- Recycling not only reduces the incredible energy required to make products from raw materials but eliminates the hazardous elements within the waste from being released when disposed.
- Some electronic waste (PCs, phones and even copiers) has personal information that can be stolen if not processed properly.
- Almost all of the components of a fluorescent lamp can be recycled including the glass, the metals and even the mercury!
- Recycling keeps you in compliance with local, state and federal regulators.
- “Going Green” is very positively viewed by consumers.
